Bridge Sequence
With traditional bridges (1), the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth are ground down (2) in order to provide support for the bridge (3).

Implant Sequence
With a dental implant, there is no need to grind down the healthy adjacent teeth. The implant provides support for the crown.
