Bone Grafting (tooth is retained)
Bone grafting is a regenerative procedure that replaces the bone supporting your teeth that has been destroyed. During this procedure the periodontist folds back the gum tissue and removes the disease-causing bacteria. Bone graft particles or chips are placed in and around the damaged bone to promote your body's natural ability to regenerate bone and tissue.

Bone Grafting (tooth is extracted)
1. The tooth is extracted and the remaining tooth socket is thoroughly cleaned of all inflamed and infected tissue.
2. Bone graft particles or chips are carefully placed into the extraction socket to fill the void left from the tooth.
3. A dissolvable membrane or filter is placed over the bone graft to help hold the graft particles in place. This is similar to the way a coffee filter contains the coffee grinds.
4. Sutures placed into the gum tissue allow proper healing of the surrounding soft tissues.
